Key West, Florida

My biggest regret as a Florida resident is that I have yet to see the gems that South Florida has to offer. After four years in the sunshine state, I’ve finally scratched Key West off of my list. To celebrate my mom’s birthday, she flew down to spend the week with me. In my attempts to make the birthday week as memorable as possible, we took our first day trip to Mile 0.

With a Florida Sunpass we managed to make the trip down in 4 hours. We got to see the Mile 0 marker, the Southernmost Point of the Continental US, and Mallory Square. I was actually pretty surprised by how many people roaming around given the pandemic. We decided to settle for a driveby of a lot of tourist attractions to avoid larger groups of people. The beautiful breeze and sunshine still made it a beautiful day to travel.

On the way back, we stopped in Key Largo to grab a bite from Key Largo Fisheries. It’s a gorgeous scenic fishery right near the water. They specialize in a variety of seafood caught by their own fisherman. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious even to a basic seafood connoisseur like myself.

Overall, our trip was amazing. While 2020 had brought a wave of unpredictable events, I’m glad that I chose to take the opportunity to safely travel outside of my bubble to see the beauty that Florida has to offer. I want to continue traveling and posting for those who can’t safely make the trip. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment below.
