Earlier this year I was approached by a family friend to edit a create a video compilation to go along with a song they composed. Initially, I took on the task thinking it’d be an easy way to dive into video editing and content creation, but I quickly learned that it required a lot of focus and time.

The final verdict is that collecting footage, embedding music and video editing isn’t a walk in the park. However, knowing the best software and some advice can help make the progression much more manageable.

FOOTAGE

Raw, unedited material filmed by a movie camera or recorded by a video camera. It can also be collected by screen recording, downloaded from stock videos sites or mobile device camera.

CHOOSE A SOFTWARE

There are quite a few video editing software applications available on desktop and mobile devices: iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Filmora, WeVideo, Windows Movie Editor, Video Editors & Video Maker.

TELL YOUR STORY

Regardless of what you film with, organize your content to convey the story you want the viewer to experience. Use this time to clean up your footage and potentially add filters.

AUDIO & MUSIC

Music helps convey your message. It also helps encourage feelings and emotions to your viewers. You can even add voiceovers and sound effects too.

FINAL EDITS

These are the final touches before exporting your video. This can include graphics, subtitles, and effects. Adobe Effects is a common software for this.

EXPORT UPLOAD

Now it’s time to export your video. The resolution format and quality of the video is based on the platform. Use the link below to see a chart. Once it’s uploaded, share your final video with everyone.
